Props, Pictures and Percussion

Props, Pictures and Percussion

Working in a group you could use different coloured bags, with different props in each one i.e. green bag for shaky eggs, red bag for scarves - equalling the number of children in your group.  All of these bags would be kept in the larger bag (Lindy’s Bag).

Working at home you could just use one big bag (Lindy’s Bag) with a selection of props for your children to discover.

Making Props

You could also make some of these things yourself at home and have some fun with the children doing so, another workshop in itself!

  • Lindy’s bag – Any satiny, bright coloured material made into a big draw string bag.
  • Shaky eggs – add rice, pulses or dried peas to small plastic bottles or balloons.
  • Carnival Sticks or Streamers – glue ribbons onto ice lolly sticks.
  • Lycra and Glitter Scarves – could buy material yourself, cut and hem.
  • Pictures – Find them in books, magazines or on the internet. Animals and the jungle for “The Clip Clop Song”, and pictures of nature for “Colours” and “Sunshine” i.e. rainbows, trees, clouds, the sea, fish etc.
  • Percussion – you could use coconut shells for “The Clip Clop Song” or sticks, tambourines or just clapping for any children who may not want to move yet.

Buying Props

Jabadao – Hand made satin bags and props

Knock on Wood – Shaky eggs and various reasonably priced percussion

I recommend supervision when using props with young children.
