About Me and My Work

About Me and My Work

Hello my name’s Lindy and just a few words to introduce myself.  I’m a creative artist who delivers movement and music workshops for young children with my big yellow bag, the props inside and the songs I’ve made up to accompany them.  I encourage participation through singing, dancing and fun!  I have always used a child centred approach, working with 0-5 year olds for over 10 years in nurseries, pre school settings and participating in various projects, some with SureStart groups.  I have attended numerous courses and training days to help me along the way, including shadowing on a Reggio inspired 2 year project called “How to Catch a Moonbeam and Pin it Down”, which was all about encouraging and acknowledging children’s imagination and creativity, giving them confidence to lead activities by exploring various props.  On this same project I also learnt how to document and track individual’s responses to stimuli and this in turn has helped me to identify and develop the magic moments created in my own workshops.

A Magic Moment is:

  • Watching a child’s face light up with delight in response to an activity or song
  • The developing interactions between child to child or child to adult
  • A child creating new ways of using props or becoming curious and creative
  • A child creating new movement or responding physically to music or song
  • When a child remembers something from an earlier session
  • Not being shy anymore!
How I Improve my Workshops:
  • Recognise = magic moments, remembering responses, overcoming language, emotional or physical barriers
  • Reflect = remembering the exploration, imagination and creativity
  • Documentation = written,  photographic or video recordings help with the above
Documentation, Recognition and Reflection has helped me to develop following sessions

I have always found the child centred approach is the best way to get results as it empowers each child and helps develop their confidence.  SEA explains this:

  • S = Stimulate (using props, pictures, stories, music or songs)
  • E = Explore (using questions, movement or pictures etc.)
  • A = Acknowledge (with praise, copying and clapping)
My aim is to encourage physical, emotional, learning and language development using music, singing and movement as my means of achieving that. I include nature, animals, colours and numbers in my songs. I have written these songs over the years to accompany the different props that I use in different coloured bags. I have seen many benefits over the years, to this day the most rewarding experience is when the activity becomes child led, or a previously shy child feels confident enough to initiate or lead the creativity.

What a great way of empowering and teaching young children!
